10K Cross
The 10k cross trail running route is designed for those willing to pick-up speed or for those who are fit, but new to this type of running. The race will carry you through legendary places like the haunted Hoia Forest, with scenic views above Cluj-Napoca and through the refreshing breeze of Someș River.
If you are in Cluj-Napoca and fancy running with us, this is a must do! See you at the start!
The cross-country race route (10.5 km with 240 m of elevation gain) is run clockwise.
- START – km 0 – from the Romulus Vuia Ethnographic Park, with a climb along Nicolae Pătrașcu Street, heading almost to the summit of Hoia Hill, which dominates the region with its impressive and towering height of 507 m.
- Km 2 km – descend sharp to the right onto the steep Alexandru Donici Street, which leads to the well-known Uliului Street.
- (!) Be mindful of possible traffic as you continue downhill toward Bucura Alley via the newly developed Ioan Iacob Street, which ends with a staircase. Extra caution is required here when overtaking other runners to avoid injury. We recommend following the runners ahead of you at a safe distance so you can clearly see where you are stepping. Also, keep an eye out for the faster half-marathon runners who started earlier and may already be catching up.
- Bucura Alley – immerses you in the urban environment with its city traffic. Our volunteers, together with traffic officers, will guide you toward the pedestrian walkway surrounding the Someș River, crossing the busier Donath Street at a pedestrian crossing.
- After only 3 more demanding kilometers, you enter the world of speed—the asphalt-running section. The route follows a four-kilometer clockwise loop, crossing the Someșul Mic River to the opposite bank via the sidewalk of Garibaldi Bridge.
- Km 5.5 – near the Sports Hall, you will find the aid and refreshment station (PA). You then return to the pedestrian crossing on Donath Street, where you should carefully follow the instructions of the traffic marshals.
- Go up to Hoia Hill with a steep climb where, probably only the strongest runners will be able to literally run, even partially.
- Km 8 – you reach the top of the hill, where volunteers will direct you toward the finish line. From here, you will enjoy a very fast section, consisting mainly of downhill running on a wide dirt road with no significant technical challenges. However, the road is also used by vehicles, so caution is advised.
- FINISH – km 10.5 – back at the Romulus Vuia Ethnographic Park.
We hope you enjoy this route, which offers many challenges characteristic of trail running, road racing, and urban running events alike.
Note: The route may still be extended slightly—by no more than one additional kilometer—to align its turnaround point with that of the 5 km course. Follow the page for more updates!
